Harley branching out into the trike business
Post date: 2006-09-07
Harley-Davidson announced today that
it has reached an agreement with Lehman Trikes USA of Spearfish, South Dakota
(just west of Sturgis), to enter into a joint venture whereby H-D will now offer
Lehman/H-D trikes through their international networks of dealers. Lehman Trikes
has been laboring in the heavyweight motorcycle aftermarket for over 20 years
converting stock bikes to their 3-wheeled versions. Harley-Davidson has been a
little “spend happy” this week, as they had just announced a few days ago
that they had bought up Castalloy, a cast wheel manufacturer in Australia.
Needless to say they will now be manufacturing their own wheels when production
starts at their facility in the Adelaide area of Oz under the name New Castalloy.
Don’t worry though, the wheels will be placed on the bikes here in the good
old US of A, thus allowing them to retain their claim of the bikes being over
95% American. Let me see: Showa front forks? Nippon-Denso gear reduction
starters? That percentage might be a little high these days.
